What does it mean that these run in the browser?
It means the work happens on your own machine, using the same engine that draws this page. When you drop a photograph into the compressor, the file is read, resized and re-encoded a few centimetres from where you are sitting — it is never sent to us and we never hold a copy of it.
Most free tools of this kind work the other way round: the file is uploaded, queued, processed on somebody's server and handed back. That is why they ask you to sign up, why they cap how many you can do, and why their privacy policies are as long as they are. None of that applies here, because there is nothing on the other end.
The trade is real and worth stating: very large files are limited by your device rather than by a datacentre, so a forty-megapixel photograph takes longer on a phone than it would on a laptop. In exchange, your work stays yours.

Are these tools really free?+
Yes, all of them, with no trial and no paid tier to upgrade to. There is no limit on how many times you use any of them. The invoice generator and rate card generator print a small Built with Lonecto line at the foot of what they produce; nothing else leaves a mark on your work.
Do I need an account?+
No. Every tool works fully without one. An account adds exactly two things: batches larger than ten images at a time, and saved setups that follow you between machines — a watermark preset, or the business details and invoice numbering on the invoice generator.
Are my files uploaded to a server?+
No. Every tool here does its work in your browser using the same engine that renders the page, so the file never leaves your device. There is no queue, no processing server and no copy of your image, invoice or document anywhere. That is also why there is no limit on how often you use them: they cost us nothing to run.
Do they work on a phone?+
Yes. All of them are built for a phone screen as well as a desktop, and the work happens on the device either way. Very large images are slower on a phone than on a laptop, for the ordinary reason that the processor is smaller.
Which tool should I use to make an image smaller?+
The image compressor, if the file size is the problem — an upload form rejecting a photo, or a slow page. The image converter, if the format is the problem — a WebP that will not open, or a PNG that should be a JPG. They are separate tools because those are separate problems, and doing both at once usually costs more quality than it needs to.
Is there anything these tools cannot do?+
They cannot open HEIC files from an iPhone, because Chrome, Edge and Firefox have no decoder for that format. They do not take payments, remove watermarks, or edit photographs beyond what each one describes. Where a tool cannot do something, its own page says so rather than failing quietly.
